POOL LIGHTING UPGRADE GUIDE
How to Upgrade a Pentair Amerilite 784 Series to a Smart LED Pool Lighting System
Keep a compatible existing fixture. Replace the old incandescent bulb. Add app, voice, remote and wall-panel control with a voltage-matched Intekit Plus system.

An older Pentair Amerilite 784 Series pool light can often be upgraded without replacing the complete fixture. If the existing Amerilite 784 Series fixture uses a compatible E26 medium base, provides enough internal clearance, is in serviceable condition, and operates at the correct voltage, an Intekit Plus Pool Bulb and voltage-matched Controller can transform it into a smart LED pool lighting system.
This guide explains what to verify before buying, how the retrofit works, what a qualified installer should inspect, and how app, Alexa, Google Assistant, remote and wall-panel control are added to the existing underwater fixture.
THE UPGRADE IN ONE VIEW
From a Traditional Pool Light to a Connected Lighting System
The fixture and niche may remain in place when they are compatible and in suitable condition. The bulb, control method and user experience are what change.
Older Amerilite 784 Series Lighting
- Incandescent white bulb
- Basic wall-switch operation
- No direct color selection
- No app or voice control
- No tunable white or scene programming
Intekit Plus Upgrade
- 16 million colors
- Tunable white from 2700K to 6500K
- Smooth dimming from 1% to 100%
- 32 preset scenes and custom programs
- App, voice, remote and panel control
- Music sync, timers and schedules
This is a smart lighting retrofit for a compatible existing pool-light fixture. It does not convert the Amerilite 784 Series fixture itself into a Pentair-connected product, and it does not create whole-pool equipment automation.
COMPATIBILITY COMES FIRST
Can Your Pentair Amerilite 784 Series Be Upgraded to LED?
Do not select a Pentair Amerilite 784 Series replacement bulb by appearance alone. Confirm these four details before purchase.
Confirm the Fixture
Check the label, original paperwork or fixture information. Verify that it is a full-size Amerilite 784 Series pool light rather than a spa, nicheless, halogen or other small-format fixture.
Useful evidence: label photo, face-ring photo and original model number.Confirm the E26 Base
A compatible installation must use an E26 medium screw base. The Intekit Plus Pool Bulb is not a replacement for E11, MR16, double-ended halogen or proprietary lamp assemblies.
Keyword check: Pentair Amerilite 784 Series E26 replacement bulb.Confirm 120V or 12V
Read the fixture label and verify the actual circuit voltage. A 12V system normally includes a pool-light transformer; a 120V system does not use a 12V output for the light.
Never infer voltage only from the bulb shape or face ring.Confirm Internal Clearance
The Intekit Plus Pool Bulb measures approximately 6¾ inches in diameter and 5½ inches high. Confirm that it will not contact the lens, housing, reflector or internal hardware.
Bulb base: E26 medium base.Choose the Complete System by Voltage
Not every Amerilite 784 Series installation is identical. A damaged fixture, incompatible socket, insufficient clearance, incorrect voltage or deteriorated wiring may require fixture repair or replacement instead of a bulb-only retrofit.
PLAN THE PROJECT
What You Need for a Pentair Amerilite 784 Series LED Upgrade
Voltage-Matched Pool Bulb
Choose the 120V AC or 12V AC Intekit Plus Pool Bulb only after the existing Amerilite 784 Series voltage, E26 base and physical clearance are confirmed.
Compare Intekit Plus Pool Bulbs →
Matching Intekit Plus Controller
Choose a Knob or Touch Controller with the same operating voltage as the pool bulb. The controller unlocks the connected smart functions.
Compare Intekit Plus Controllers →Correct New Lens Gasket
Opening the light disturbs the existing seal. Use a new gasket made for the exact fixture and inspect the lens, clamp and sealing surfaces.
Review the Resealing Steps →Electricity and Water Require Qualified Work
Pool-light circuits, GFCI protection, grounding, bonding, transformers and underwater fixtures must comply with applicable codes. Inspection, controller installation and commissioning should be performed by a qualified pool professional or licensed electrician.
SMART CONTROL, DESIGNED FOR WATER
How the Intekit Plus Smart Pool Light System Works
Water, depth and metal housings can weaken or block ordinary wireless signals. Intekit Plus does not require the underwater bulb to maintain a direct Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or Zigbee connection.
App and supported voice commands reach the controller through the connected network. Remote commands reach the controller wirelessly. Panel commands begin directly at the Knob or Touch Controller. The controller then processes the command and communicates with compatible bulbs through the connected electrical wiring.
- App and voice control through supported connected services
- Remote and panel control available without internet
- One compatible controller can operate multiple matched lights
- Pool and spa lighting can respond as a coordinated system
INSTALLATION OVERVIEW
How to Replace a Pentair Amerilite 784 Series Bulb and Add Smart Control
The following overview helps homeowners understand the project. It is not a substitute for the applicable product manuals, local electrical code or qualified professional installation.
IDENTIFY
Confirm the Existing Fixture and Voltage
Locate the fixture label, installation records or original product information. Confirm the Amerilite 784 Series fixture, E26 medium base, internal clearance and actual operating voltage.
MATCH
Select a Complete Voltage-Matched Intekit Plus System
Choose an Intekit Plus Pool Bulb and Controller with exactly the same voltage rating. Do not mix a 12V component with a 120V component.
MAKE SAFE
Disconnect and Verify Electrical Power
Switch off power at the circuit breaker—not only at the wall switch—and verify that the pool-light circuit is de-energized before the fixture or controller enclosure is opened.
REMOVE
Bring the Amerilite 784 Series Fixture onto the Pool Deck
A qualified installer removes the retaining screw and carefully brings the fixture onto a clean, soft work surface using the available service-cord length. The cord must not be cut, pulled sharply or damaged.
INSPECT
Open and Inspect the Pool-Light Fixture
Remove the face ring, clamp, lens and old gasket according to the fixture instructions. Inspect the lens, housing, socket, cable, clamp and sealing surfaces for damage, corrosion, heat or water intrusion.
INSTALL
Install the E26 LED Replacement Bulb
After confirming the interior is clean and dry, remove the old incandescent bulb and install the voltage-matched Intekit Plus Pool Bulb into the E26 socket. Tighten securely by hand without overtightening.
RESEAL
Install a New Lens Gasket and Reassemble
Fit a new gasket made for the exact Amerilite 784 Series fixture. Reinstall the lens, face ring and clamp evenly according to the manufacturer’s instructions so the gasket seats correctly without pinching or distortion.
COMMISSION
Install the Controller, Inspect and Test the System
Install the matching Intekit Plus Controller on the required shared electrical system. Inspect the fixture seal, GFCI protection, grounding, bonding, transformer or branch circuit, and enclosure before restoring power. Then test panel, remote, app and voice control.
SYSTEM RULES
One Controller. One Matched Electrical System.
Correct voltage is only the first requirement. The controller and compatible bulbs must also share the required electrical path.
Same Transformer Output
The 12V AC Intekit Plus Controller and all compatible 12V AC Pool or Spa Bulbs must be connected to the same transformer’s 12V AC output.
Do not operate across separate transformers.Same Applicable Branch Circuit
The 120V AC Intekit Plus Controller and compatible 120V AC bulbs must be installed on the same applicable pool-lighting circuit.
Do not mix 120V and 12V components.Only one Intekit Plus Controller should be installed on the same household lighting circuit. Multiple controllers on one circuit can create communication conflicts and may damage the system.
